Gentrification refers to adding value to old buildings situated in urban areas by reinventing the buildings 'personality' and sometimes changing its use. Gentrification would also add aesthetics to the city. However issues of financing, politics and race affect the use of space (Lees 2001), which may have resulted in these buildings remaining dilapidated. Gentrification may also result in the displacement of the middle class as they sell their property to persons interested in gentrification. It may also be the case that owners of these dilapidated buildings may hold the buildings with the expectation for increased property values in the future. I believe it is an inefficient use of the limited space in our Capital city. People should revitalize these eye sores in the city, adding value to our culture and vibe in the city.
